Compassion, Creativity and Community…at Christmas!

Dear Friend of 6 St. Joseph House November 19, 2009

We are sending you this email/letter as you have been a supporter of 6 St. Joseph House and our Yellow Door Learning Centre and/or have visited our House and seen our facilities, our courses and the works of our “artists”. These courses are offered free to people in life transition situations-possibly experiencing barriers to their personal growth which prevent them from fulfilling their potential to contribute to our community.

We are a community-based creative and wellness learning centre, in the heart of Toronto’s ‘downtown’ core, offering over forty courses in arts, life skills and wellness - where individuals actively participate in their journey to return to a more positive life, where they can contribute in ways that restore their self-confidence and allows them to feel part of our community and society.

Last year we had about 15,000 annual individual program participant visits to our courses and we served more than 5,000 meals at our free Community Lunches on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Demand for food at Shelters and Food Banks across the City is up by more than 30%- and our Community Lunch visitor numbers have increased proportionally.

As we all know, 2009 has been a very tough year for our economy. We all know somebody who has been ‘downsized’. As you know, this year has also been extremely difficult for charities and for Fund-raising. Unfortunately, due to the economy-the number of people needing our services has increased as well. Since 1991, we have responded to Toronto’s homeless crisis with our free Community Lunches — while also providing resources and support to our community’s marginalized citizens by incubating and mentoring a wide range of community projects and enterprises.

For the December Holidays-we all look forward to spending time with family and friends-getting together with groups we belong to- and enjoying the Season.

But what if YOU didn’t have a family, have friends, didn’t ‘fit in’ with any groups? Where would YOU go? These are the people that Seeds of Hope and 6 St. Joseph House assists-over the Holiday Season-and all through the year.
